Reporting any special circumstances you have directly to the college financial aid office could result in additional financial aid! Most colleges will take the following circumstances into consideration and recalculate financial aid:
- Job loss/Reduced income
- One time source of income that was reported for the tax year the FAFSA required
- Significant Medical/Dental Expenses
- Private k-12 expenses for other children (Some college will consider this)
- More than one child in college at a time (Some colleges will consider this)
- Eldercare expenses
- Other unusual financial circumstances
If any of these things apply to you be sure to reach out to the college financial aid office and complete their special circumstances form. It could mean more financial aid for you!
